So Begins the Purge – No Matter How Hard It Hurts.

For those that know me personally, I have always loved Disney.

My son was Stitch for his first Halloween, and Woody for his Second. I carved both the Cheshire Cat and the Oogie Boogie Man into our pumpkins.

Disney toys are sprawled across our home.

I have been collecting Disney mugs since highschool. The majority of my collection is packed away downstairs, waiting for the day I FINALLY have a home I can call my own again. Since moving back in with my parents, I have accumulated quite a few new mugs.

Who needs this many mugs? I maybe use 1 a week. So I have decided to let go of these as my first step towards a minimalistic life. I can give all my son’s toys away that I want, but until I start giving my own things away I am really just a mean Mom/hypocrite.

So here I go.

I am putting my money where my mouth is. I am trying to stay strong about this decision and have no regrets. In reality, I feel like this:

(Full disclosure: He crawled behind the gate after I got him dressed, but then shut the gate. I assumed he didn’t want to leave. When I waved bye-bye, he lost his damn mind!)

Yes, I love my things. It’s knowing that I do not use them and someone else could be getting better value out of them that has me staying strong in this decision. So as of right now, they are all posted on my local buy and sell Facebook pages. The waiting game begins. I hope fellow lovers of Disney will buy them as soon as possible so I don’t get second thoughts and pull the ad down.

In the meantime, I will enjoy my beverages from a cup I had made personally for myself. I feel it represents all the hardships I have gone through since December 2015, and all the hardships to come.

My “Husband” was very fond of the Hank mug. It took me a few tries to remind him that he has a mug that our son “gave” him for his first Father’s Day. While he doesn’t think of it as funny as I do, it gets the job done and is SO much easier to clean than Hank.

So my friends, I lift my only mug and say “Cheers!” to you all.

Also, a brief notification:

On my Instagram, I posted about participating in the Minimalism Game! Each day I will be ridding from my home a number of items (it doesn’t matter what they are) that fall under the corresponding date. January 1st, 1 item has to go. January 2nd, 2 items bah, ha, ha! and so on and so forth until the end of January! Anyone is welcome to join me. I will post here and on my Instagram which items I am purging. I really hope to make it to the end of the month this time.
